What's new in this version:
Version 0.98 includes many bug fixes and better picture quality rendering.
Pros
Useful features: UMPlayer easily played various media files on our PC, and the built-in Shoutcast application worked perfectly when activated. The audio and visual customization tools functioned fine as well, despite a minor delay of a half-second when changing properties during playback.
Understandable layout: All icons and menu options are easy to interpret, so you will find no confusion when using this software. The dark color scheme draws attention to videos in an attractive manner.
Cons
Missing functions: YouTube streaming and recording did not work during our tests, and we could not play videos by URL, either. Despite stating that it supports CDA codecs, UMPlayer did not recognize any audio CDs in our disk drive.
Poor DVD playback: Compared to other video players, UMPlayer lagged during DVD playback, often freezing and restarting the video file. The DVD menu was inaccessible as well.
Bottom Line:
UMPlayer is an acceptable media player that has a lot more potential. For now, some of the missing features and playback issues may be too big of a trade-off for most users.
